I bought a subscription to LogMeIn Pro today and I am glad I did.
In the past LogMeIn used to have a free account. I had a free account and sometimes used it to connect to my home computer. It was helpful at times to test things for companies that I worked at. When they stopped with the free account I didn’t really find any other software that I liked. I tried most of them, but they were just not the same. They didn’t have the ease of use I liked.
So today I was testing it out and just for kicks I thought I would upgrade my mac which is running the beta version of the next operating system. It rebooted and I expected it to lose connection since an OS upgrade normally stops things like screen sharing from working. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when I could still see the mac screen upgrading and I was still able to view what was going on.
What this means is that someone can now upgrade a mac computer completely without needing to be in front of it. If a windows machine works the same, then consumer computers now have a level of management and reliability that only server computers used to have. What a fantastic feature.
I also like that it has 1 TB of file sharing, and it can share files with others that are too big to send through email. I like that it can share its screen with others so it would be easy to have something like a WebEx presentation with someone who doesn’t need to understand and pay that kind of licensing. It allows easy file transfers as well between machines so that is very nice for IT people.
I am not trying to sell it, and I don’t get a commission but this seems like a great tool to use and totally worth the $99 promo for a year they currently have.
